Tangled the Movie

Today my kids and I went to the matinee movies at the mall and saw the movie Tangled.  It has been out since about November and is still being played.  It was such a great family movie. We laughed and (I) cried. It was really a heart-warming film and it was absolutely adorable. It was good enough to watch again. I may even buy the DVD.

Tangled was directed by Byron Howard (director of the movies Let it Begin and Bolt) and Nathan Greno (who also directed Let it Begin as well as Super Rhino).

Tangled features the voices of Mandy Moore as Rapunzel and Zachary Levi as the thief Flynn (real name Eugene) as well as M.C. Gainey, Brad Garrett, Donna Murphy, Ron Perlman. Tangled was released in theaters in November and 2010, and still playing in some theaters.

This movie is the classic children's story of Rapunzel re-named Tangled and done in Disney Digital 3D™.

The story begins -- the Queen and King lived on an island that began from a drop of sunshine. The Queen became ill during her pregnancy and survived this nearly fatal illness by drinking a tea made with from a magical flower.

This magical flower was growing up on the hillside above the kingdom, but was being hidden away from everyone. An old woman had been hiding it for years and years because when she sang to the magical flower, she regained her youth. When the Queen fell ill, the people of the kingdom set out to find the magic flower to heal the Queen.

Luckily, the people were able to find the magical flower that had spent its life being hidden under a cover of leaves. They found it because the old woman had just visited with the flower and while there, she heard them coming so she left in a hurry and accidentally kicked over the leaf covering.

The Queen drank the tea and her pregnancy continued, resulting in the baby princess Rapunzel. She was born with a full head of beautiful blonde hair that resembled the color of the flower.

A few days after birth, Rapunzel was stolen by the old woman, who only wanted her for her hair so she could continue to use its powers to recapture her youth. She tried to cut a piece of the hair and it turned brown and died. The strand of hair on Rapunzel's head that had been cut was also brown. It lost its magical powers once it was cut.

The old woman raised Rapunzel in a tower hidden away from everyone. She would sing to Rapunzel's hair as she brushed it. Rapunzel's beautiful blonde hair would glow and the woman's youth would magically return. Rapunzel was her fountain of youth.

She would never let Rapunzel out of the castle, but she had a beautiful view from way up in that tower. She didn't really realize what she was missing by not being let out of that tower. Her "mother" made the world seem like a really scary place and that Rapunzel was not capable of caring for herself at all; that she was too fragile and just couldn't do it on her own.

One day, some thieves robbed the castle and took the Queen's jeweled crown. As the three were escaping, the handsome of the three left the other two, twin thugs, and ventured away on his own. As he was running, he saw the tower in the distance so he ran to the tower and climbed it.

Rapunzel was waiting the man, whose name was Flynn, with frying pan in hand and hit him over the head, knocking him to the floor. This part was really funny because he was knocked out and she was trying to lock him in her closet. She tried and tried until finally locking him in there with a chair.

The old woman returned while Rapunzel had the thief locked in the closet. The next day would be her 18th birthday and she was trying to tell her that she wanted to go see the lights in the sky for her birthday. (The lights in the sky were lanterns that were released by the kingdom each year in honor of the lost princess' birthday [Rapunzel]). The old woman would have no such thing. She reminded Rapunzel that the world outside was too scary; that she was to fragile and could not handle such things on her own. She wanted to show her that she had him locked in the closet and had done that all on her own. But after being reminded that she couldn't handle the world outside, she changed her mind. The idea came to her that she would have the thief take her to see the lanterns.

The old woman left and Rapunzel let the thief out of the closet.

Eventually she talked him into taking her to see the lanterns.

They descended the tower and she was ecstatic to be free. She went through a range of emotions after escaping. Then the trouble began, and a lot of trouble. But eventually they got to see the lanterns released. He told her that Flynn was not his real name and she told him about her magical hair.

It was not too long after that that the old woman and twin "bad guys" would find her and Flynn. She told Rapunzel that once he got the crown back (Rapunzel promised him if her took her to see the lights, she would give back the crown) he would leave her; that that was all he wanted from her.

The old woman would have Flynn caught and made it seem like he left Rapunzel and convinced her to return to the tower.

She and Flynn would eventually find each other as Flynn would find his way back to Rapunzel at the tower, with the help of a horse that used to be one of the kingdom's horses, Maximus.

The first place they went was to see her parents, the Queen and King, who had not seen her since she had been kidnapped by the old woman. It was a beautiful reunion.

Of course you know they lived happily ever after.   I don't want to tell every detail of the movie and I think that if you read this hub this far, you'd really like to see it!   : )
